"...My name is SSG Phelps U.S. Army I am in Iraq right now and we use techniques from Soke David Dye. He has 3 great DVDs (3 vol. Set) that go through everything from Irimi-Nage to Kotegaeshi to
We have found these to be very effective and very helpful for our missions while we are here..."
From reviewers on Amazon.com:
I like it!

Wow... The kotegaeshi techniques here are great. Dye has an amazingly powerful aikido approach. The effective Yoshinkan style is clearly the foundation of his system. I think the late Gozo Shioda
would smile looking at this. Now, you can do these throws smooth and soft and feel all spiritual, or you can slam the attacker hard to the ground/mat. This DVD-series is about self-defense in the
real world. It takes a lot of practice though. Keep up the good work Sensei Dye! :)
Very Pleased.

Each of these productions features many of the techniques taught at Shuyokan by Sensei Dye. At the beginning of each DVD, Sensei Dye offers instruction on the proper use of Ukemi (break falls) required for many of the techniques shown. Then, with the help of some of the Shuyokan Black belts, Sensei Dye instructs you step-by-step on using some of the traditional techniques of Aikido, such as Kotegaeshi, Shihonage, Iriminage and other advanced techniques involving defending against a club, knife, or gun, for the purposes of practical self-defense for The Modern Warrior.
From the back cover of the DVD's: Shuyokan Ryu is a martial art teaching system made up of techniques taken from the traditional martial arts of Yoshinkan Aikido, Kodokan Judo and Jujutsu, and Shotokan Karate Jujutsu. Shuyokan Ryu stresses "self-defense", not fighting. The founder and headmaster, Soke David Dye, has taken these techniques and put them into a practical form of martial art based on his 34 years as a police officer in California and his martial arts training and teaching since 1962. His self-defense system is better known as the "Samurai Cop's System of Self-Defense".
